Equal but Separate

Jim Crow's laws almost benefited the south,
Until they came through our town and bombed the center out.
Equal but separate with the notion we wouldn't succeed.
Equal but separate, we showed that with unity we can thrive, indeed.
Equal but separate, no more picking cotton, we now own banks.
Equal but separate, Heads held high as we passed our fellow man.
Equal but separate, no more, 'Yes sir, master' or 'Sure Boss, I do.'
Equal but separate, we now owned our own land and built beautiful houses, too.
Equal but separate, no more sharecropping from the white man for low wages.
Equal but separate, in June 1921, everything changed,
They took everything we earned and left our leaders in ashes.
So went our Doctors, lawyers, business men and even our pastor.
So down with Black Wall Street and let the equality end.
And for the second time, they've destroyed our homes,
Allowing the true separation to begin.
